Due to an maintenance on submarine cables between Dublin & Southport TalkTalk are having congestion problems which is affecting a small number of broadband. These lines saw high latency and 20% packet loss on Tuesday 9pm-midnight, and again today (Wednesday) from 9AM onward.
The maintenance on the fibres between Dublin & Southport is actually planned work that started yesterday and is due to complete on 4th April(!). TalkTalk are working on re-routing traffic away from their congested links but are warning that there still may be congestion at peak time.
This seems to only affect VDSL lines, and is affecting under 1.4% of our TalkTalk lines in total.
Customers affected by this may find that rebooting their router (or forcing PPP to reconnect) may cause their line to be routed differently within the TalkTalk core network then not be affected by this fault. It's worth a try...
TalkTalk have an incident open for this: https://aastatus.net/39912
Loss and latency went back to normal by 2PM. We'll be keeping an eye these lines though.
The problem has not reoccurred since 31st March.
