On Monday 4th July some FTTP lines experienced packetloss between 21:30 and 22:30. This was caused traffic levels on our 'Witless' LNSs reaching a point where they got too busy and started dropping packets.
(The 'Witless' set of LNSs carry our faster FTTP services, the 'Gormless' set of LNSs carry slower FTTP services and ADSL/FTTC.)At the time we applied a configuration change to reduce the packet loss. To reduce the load further we have moved a small amount of circuits on to the 'Gormless' set of LNSs today.
As well as adding additional LNSs, longer term performance improvements for our Witless LNSs are in development and being tested.
We will carry on monitoring traffic levels and will keep this incident open for the time being.
